Arnhem Land: Episode 1

THIS WEEK ON ALL 4 ADVENTURE…

Jase and Simon are back and are equipped for a new adventure! And they’ve even got a new addition to the convoy. Mitch joins the crew behind the wheel of Simon’s rebuilt rig from last season, while Simon is set up with a shiny new D-Max. With the 300 Series, a 6.1 metre Sea Jay, a smaller tinnie, and a CF Moto SXS all in tow, they roll off the beaten path and into Arnhem Land.

Fuel is topped off at the last servo before the coast, but they’re not the only ones hitting the road. There’s time for a quick little rescue to stop a black-headed python from becoming roadkill.

As daylight fades, they opt to save the water crossing for the morning and set up camp beside the river. A foggy morning brings the first challenge of the trip. The crossing is no problem, but getting back up the other side is a different story. Jase punches through cleanly, but Simon gets to break out his new winch after burying his trailer. A double-line winch pull assists the climb out.

From there they push deeper and take a right at the donkey to carry out a request from traditional owner Nathan. Their mission is to find and reopen an overgrown track to an old fishing spot. The track spills them out onto a soft sand beach next to a stunning bay which is perfect for camp. Jase plants the seeds for sweet dreams with the promise of fishing a little creek the next day which is filled with mud crabs, barra and jacks.

The next morning, they do a little hike up to the highest point in order to get the lay of the land. The speccy creek is spotted, and there’s so much more to explore!

Simon tries out his turtle impression in the soft sand before lowering his tyre pressures to almost nothing. Once they get moving down the beach, they find a place to launch the Avenger with a trailer on trailer execution.

Jase can’t wait to throw in a line, and the fish are on before they even start the motor. They move further into the creek, where Mitch catches a tree and Jase gets the first barra. They are a bit wary as they spot a crocodile slide down the bank nearby.

A colony of flying foxes hangs in the mangroves as they explore further into the system where the focus switches to mud crabs. Hands are shredded, tempers tested, and Mitch refuses to give up until he finally captures a crab of his own. Simon gets a queenfish on the line, and soon they head back to the beach for a cook up.

The bush kitchen is set up on the beach, where steamed crab and fish wraps are on the menu. With this kind of fishing, they’re going to have to drag Simon away! But there’s much more to explore in ‘Arnhem Land’!
