In this summer special, Jase and Simon are in Queensland heading North with their mate Billy Berg from AusRV. Billy has brought along some AusRV vans for R&D testing assuming they’d be heading to the tip, but Jase has other ideas of a track that will really put these caravans to the test.
Known to 4-wheel drivers as the hardest track in the Cape, the old coach road runs for 67 kilometers up and down rocky tracks from Laura to Maytown and was used to transport gold during the rush in the 1880s. What better place to give their gear a workout and have a little bit of fun while they’re at it.
Making it to the Maytown ruins is their prize, as there’s no gold left in this historic spot. But there are a few relics left behind from the bustling settlement which used to thrive there.
Instead of coming back the difficult way they came, they opt for the easier route back to the coast with the promise of a secret fishing spot to give the boys a chance of scenery. But ‘easier’ does not equal ‘easy’ as there are still some challenging rocks, trees, and sand to contend with along the way.
